I’ve worked in a variety of healthcare settings as both a mental health provider and healthcare administrator: a board and care facility for adults diagnosed with schizophrenia, both urban and rural community hospitals, federally-qualified primary care clinics, community mental health clinics, supportive housing programs, a mandated outpatient treatment program for paroles, and private practice.
All these roles had their own unique challenges, but the same thing kept happening. Healthcare providers were chronically under-resourced, under-appreciated, and burnt out.
Graduated Growth’s coaching services for professionals is grounded in helping providers reignite their passion for healing others, whether that be within a traditional healthcare role, or something you would’ve never imagined for yourself. You have a unique skillset that is valuable and desired. I know the complex emotions that arise that come with recognizing your career goals and dreams have changed or are changing. Together, we can develop a roadmap to get you where you want to go.
Coaching services include:
Career clarity and coaching, including translating skills to other environments or projects.
Navigating Challenging Relationships (with patients, other staff, or supervisors).
Developing practical skills such as de-escalation techniques, motivational interviewing, strategies to address burn out, and setting appropriate boundaries and expectations.
Advocacy and giving feedback to supervisors and institutions.

My favorite professional healthcare memory is the year of service with AmeriCorps, Community HealthCorps I completed in 2012. I was bright eyed and optimistic about the changing landscape of healthcare. The Affordable Healthcare Act had just passed and federal health insurance expansion was coming. I enrolled some of our most vulnerable community members into health benefits programs! It was great. Healthcare for all was coming and I was doing something positive about it.
After my year of service, I worked as the sole eligibility assessor for a home delivered meals program for the city and county of San Francisco. I quickly became hopeless because while people in need were qualifying for my program, my waitlist was over 2 years long. I stopped feeling like I was meaningfully helping people and eventually moved on and spent 6 years as the data manager for a supportive housing program compromised of 10+ housing sites and 25+ staff members. I leveraged my patient-facing experiences with my keen eye for data metrics to better understand our outcome measures, partner with our staff members to improve patient outcomes, and secure funding.
Fast forward to the present day, Graduated Growth’s programmatic and organizational consultation services are based on my combined 14+ years of experience in clinical, administrative, and academic roles in a variety of healthcare settings. When I was in graduate school as a full-time student and part-time clinical practicum trainee, I worked a full-time job, took out the maximum in federal student loans, and still struggled to make ends meet while caring for medically complex loved ones. At my absolute lowest, I was expelled from my program.
To make a long story short, I was reinstated after my then-boyfriend (now-husband), sold off a chunk of his assets, and essentially wrote me my version of a blank check. To top it all off, as a child of a retired university professor, he seemed to know exactly how to interact with the school administration to advocate for my reinstatement and every fight I had to have with the academic system thereafter.
Graduate school is hard enough when you have all the resources and tools at your disposal, and even harder when you’re figuring it out as you go along and it seems like everyone else has it together. And I got stupid lucky because I happened to fall in love with someone who had the resources to guide me. Now, I can guide you.
Graduated Growth centers students and trainees, recognizing that institutions sometimes fail the very students they are committed to teaching. Rooted in firsthand experiences, me and my colleagues offer comprehensive pro-bono and pay-what-you-can mentorship to students and trainees to help you get to that seemingly elusive finish line.
Mentorship services include:
Support for students and trainees navigating academic challenges
